Children cannot control their body temperature as efficiently as adults during hot weather because they do not sweat as much and so it's important that we do everything that we can to keep our pupils cool in the heat.

Parent and carers please remember to send your child to school with:

  • Sun screen on

  • A water bottle

  • A hat or cap

  • Their school PE kit on.

During the day staff will be following DfE guidance and will:

  • Ensure children take in fluids and have regular water breaks.

  • Ensure children take their hat/cap and water bottle outside with them.

  • Ensure windows are open first thing to cool rooms down, THEN almost close windows when the outdoor air becomes warmer than the air indoors – this should help keep the heat out while allowing adequate ventilation.

  • Ensure no jumpers, leavers hoodies etc are worn.

  • Keep the use of electric lighting to a minimum - TURN LIGHTS OFF.

  • Use fans in identified rooms.

  • Adapt teaching spaces and teaching activities if required.

  • Monitor and adapt the time children spend outside over breaktimes and lunchtimes.

Senior leaders will be monitoring the situation across the two days and if needed will cancel planned events and / or change the timings to the school day for some pupils or all.

Any action taken will be carried out for the health and safety of our pupils and parents will be contacted through the website, Marvellous Me and / or by phone.
