Starting Nursery

Children are usually admitted to Nursery shortly after their third birthdays unless there is a waiting list due to nursery numbers being full.

The nursery will contact parents when a place is available in order to initiate transition and induction procedures. A list of children requiring a nursery place is kept by the nursery teacher and parents should give names to the school office staff at the earliest opportunity to ensure a place is allocated. The current nursery capacity is for 26 children and children attend for half a day, usually either mornings or afternoons. There is some provision for flexibility within our nursery setting, for example two and a half days a week. In order to access this, parents need to speak with the nursery teacher or Principal, however certain criteria must be met. E.g. Flexibility is used to support working parents.

School Entry

Please see the Academy's Admissions Policy. A transition meeting with the Principal, class teacher and other key members of staff, will take place before children enter full-time education. This is an opportunity for you to meet staff, to tell us more about your child and to ask questions.

We know that children starting nursery and full-time school need good preparation and so do their parents! We help children by having transition days when children attend their new class, meet staff and get to know the classroom and routines. We also organise an opportunity for parents and children to come and have a school dinner in our dining hall before starting full time school, as well as ‘Stay and Play’ sessions when parents can stay and participate in activities with their child and meet staff.

Parents can help their child start school smoothly by making sure children arrive on time, wear the appropriate uniform and by discussing their child with staff to ensure we know as much as possible to help children settle in. The school also holds a ‘Consultation Time’ before the Autumn half term.
